Owen is a picky eater

We tried to give him a variety of foods to avoid this situation, but I knew he was predestined to be a picky eater as Chris and I are both picky. My mom said I used only eat Cheerios and pinto beans.

Owen loves some fried food, basically any kind of starch and corn bread!! Tonight I was reading a baby cookbook borrowed from a friend and found some great ideas that I am planning on trying:

  • sweet potato sticks
  • carrot fries (baked)
  • tuna salad no pickles (he liked this at his Grandmommy's)
  • hummus
  • salmon patties
  • frittatas mixing in different veggies
  • veggie pancakes
  • baby burritoes
  • eggs
Tonight I made: Spinach Pancakes

I didn't really use a recipe, but here is kinda what I did.  I followed the box recipe, then I added cooked frozen spinach, and some potato flakes.  Fried it up! Here's what it looked like:

It happened again

It is weird to write this here.  Because it is about this blog.  Probably some of you who read this have already experienced this reaction from me if you know me "in real life".

I am going about my life just talking with a random friend, my mom's friend or just an acquaintance and then IT happens.

They say to me: "I read your blog".

What immediately runs through my head is about a million thoughts.

What was my last post about? Owen's poop?  Do people really care about that?

Oh my gosh.......WHAT!!

How in the world did they find my blog?

I am SO SORRY you had to listen to my boring life...my whining...my randomness!

Then they say:  "I cried/bawled while reading it"

OMG!
WHAT!
I AM SO SORRY!!!!

Awe....the know....they remember my babies.  My little babies....how I miss them.

I feel bad when people say they read my blog and cried.  I don't write to please anyone. I don't write to evoke sympathy or pity or whatever....but THEN on the other hand....it is nice to know people care.  That they care so much about us that they took time out of their busy days to read my words, look at my pictures, that they cry for us, for the twins we lost and for the pain we went through.  That for that moment my babies were remembered, that they touched someone else's life.  Because they have changed my life forever.

My life is not so special....there are plenty of other women who have gone through far worse than I.  But to get back to my main thought tonight.  I wish I could just have a list of everyone that really does read this blog, that way when I see these people out and about I can know that they know all my thoughts and feelings that I put on here.

So, if you do see me don't feel like you can't tell me you read this blog. I do still want to know, but don't be surprised when I say "I'm sorry".  Why women feel like they need to apologize for things that don't need an apology is beyond me and could be a another whole post.

switching to whole milk

It is official, no more bottles, no more breastmilk and no more FORMULA!!!  Thank goodness!!

We started switching to whole milk cold turkey.  He seemed to like it, but then we got worried that the whole milk was giving him diarrhea.  WELL, it wasn't the milk it was that stomach bug!  So, we went back to formula till Owen was all well.  When I tried to give him whole milk he wasn't interested, I wouldn't be either.  You know how you eat something and it makes you sick and you don't want it anymore, this is what I think he is relating to the whole milk.

So, we did 1/5th whole milk and 4/5ths formula for several days, then 1/3, and then a good week of 1/2.  I could tell when he wasn't sure of the milk and when he would get used to it.  I didn't force it as I was also trying to use up the container of formula too.  From 1/2 we were able to jump to a 1/4 for a day or so and then it happened.  We were running late, so I just thought better now than later!  Owen drank the 100% whole milk ok that day! BUT the next day and true to today he has been GULPING it down like the whole milk is FABULOUS and he has never had such goodness!

I am proud that I was able to exclusively give him breastmilk till 10 months, he had formula for 2 1/2 months and now he is organic whole milk.

Now if I could get him to eat his veggies!!

1 year growth spurt

I think we are in the middle of a growth spurt, naps are all wonky and he is eating me out of house and home!! For instance last night he was melting down at 6pm so I put him in bed and off to dream world he went. Y'all are not going to believe what time he woke up this morning...wait for it! 10am!!!!!!! Yes 16 hours of sleep. So Chris and I woke up at 9 checked the monitor saw Owen was just fine and relaxed or an hour before he woke up for the day. Thankfully, we were able to skip the morning nap and he went down great for his afternoon nap and bedtime my baby is growing up too fast....wahhhhhhh!!!!!!!!

Owen one year

How did we go from this?

To this?

It is really amazing how much a baby grows in only a year!

This past month Owen has been getting into everything:

  • pulling up and falling down
  • getting stuck standing in his crib
  • getting stuck standing anywhere!
  • Learning new words: uh-oh when he drops something, k-t for light, ball, book just tonight he tried to say fan...fffffaaa!
  • pointing with his pointer finger at things
  • pushing the button on his ball popper to start it
  • pushing buttons on toys to start the music
  • asking to watch TV
  • loving to read books and turn the pages and open the flaps
  • rubbing noses with mommy
  • blowing kisses (ok only a few times so far)
  • open mouth kisses while saying ahhhhh
I know there is way more that happened this past month!

Easter

Last year Owen was baptized at the Easter service at my mom's church. I am not sure what we will be doing this year but his Easter basket is ready. Talk about being prepared!! Since we are still on self imposed quarantine from our friends (sorry to those strangers who we were near at the dollar store today!!) we went shopping. I found the cutest balls that we can play with and also learn colors. The carrot bat with green ball was too funny to pass up and what kid can have an Easter basket with out a chocolate bunny and bubbles!!!! I threw in a wind up chick and bunny for giggles. I only spent $10! That is my kind of deal!

The basket came from an etsy shop I think it was Bridget's stitches if you want to get one I was really impressed with the quality! It is on the smaller side, but in the long run just means less basket to fill!

Any one else thinking about Easter? Because the stuff is already on the shelves at the stores.....crazy that for once they got me!
