CD4: bloodwork AMH testing

Today I gave blood again, this is the third time since trying to conceive. The second time my lab nurse was horrible and stabbed me three times before getting a smaller needle and using a more sensitive vein got the blood she needed. This time it was the same lady, I asked her to use my other arm and jokingly asked her not to stab me 4 times. Thankfully, she got it the first time.

What is AMH?
AMH stands for Anti-Mullerian Hormone. AMH is produced by the egg follicle that the ovaries grow to prepare an egg for release into the fallopian tube. The levels of AMH found in the blood could be an indicator of a woman’s ovarian function. Essentially, an AMH test can tell you if your ovaries are still releasing eggs.

The theory is that because the level of anti-mullerian hormone found in the blood does not fluctuate throughout the month, it could be an accurate predictor of whether a woman is still fertile and how many eggs she has left in her ovaries. The manufactures claim that it is more accurate than a simple oestrogen test. If they’re right, then the test would be a predictor of who’s more likely to have success with in-vitro fertilization.

Interpretation	AMH Blood Level
High (often PCOS)	Over 3.0 ng/ml
Normal	Over 1.0 ng/ml
Low Normal Range	0.7 - 0.9 ng/ml
Low	0.3 - 0.6 ng/ml
Very Low	Less than 0.3 ng/ml

So, after reading all this, they are giving it a 70% accuracy reading...ahhhhh and another website said it is a costly procedure. I didn't even think to ask how much it cost. I hope all this infertility testing doesn't eat up all my money saved for delivery of an actual baby.
